Mark Langdale studied at Leeds College of Art and Sunderland University Faculty of Art and Design where he obtained a BA Honours degree in Fine Art.
He explores the dynamic relationship between the act of mark-making and the emotional resonance it creates. His work is gestural and expressionistic.
His process involves an intuitive and physical approach, where each mark on the canvas becomes a response to the previous one, building a layered and spontaneous composition.
Inspired by medieval art and German expressionism, his recent collections blend historical references with bold experimentation.
Mark draws influence from masters such as Picasso, Kirchner, Munch, Redon, Matisse, and Gauguin, bringing their legacy into a contemporary context through his vivid, gestural language.
